…is named after the late Doug Brown whose achievements are fondly remembered by all North Staffordshire people. This popular figure was Stoke-on-Trent Lord Mayor first during the early eighties and again in 1997/8 shortly before being diagnosed with motor neurone, a terrible debilitating, and as yet incurable disease. It is now nearly 40 years since Doug pioneered the local LADS AND DADS football leagues, and happily and enthusiastically served as Founder Chairman right up until his sad passing away at the age of 80. |

| Mrs Joyce Brown, who was delighted to provide The Clarion with photos and facts of her late husband’s achievements, proudly pointed out that he was also President of the local Chinese community and regarded so highly that as his final days coincided with the Chinese New Year, ALL celebrations were cancelled out of respect. Wolstanton based homecare specialist Castle Comfort Centre formed their charity long ago to aid MN research, after having provided their products to numerous sufferers of the disease. Funds raised are divided between the MND Association in Northampton and to keep things at a local level, the Neurology Department at the North Staffs Hospital Complex. |
